DIY Bird Food Pinecone

My kids loved carefully pressing the birdseed into the pinecone's crevices, and we hung it by the window to watch finches visit within hours. It's sturdy enough that the birds don't knock the seed off too quickly.

We spread peanut butter on the pinecone and rolled it in birdseed, and within an hour we had finches and chickadees feeding together. The kit made it easy enough for my six-year-old to help without getting frustrated.

My kids and I made these on a rainy afternoon and hung them by the kitchen window—the birds found them within the hour and it's been nonstop action since. The pinecones are sturdy enough to hold plenty of peanut butter and seed, so we've got chickadees and finches squabbling over spots together.
